NCDEX Pepper
Pepper prices hit record high on global supply concern. Pepper contracts on the NCDEX remained locked at the 4 percent upper circuit for the second consecutive day session. Pepper growers are holding back stocks in anticipation of a further rise in prices, leading to limited supply in the market. According to Indian Pepper and Spice Trade Association, the spot price for garbled and un-garbled grade increased to Rs.40500 and Rs.39000 per 100kg, respectively. Meanwhile, black pepper price in the Singapore Mercantile Exchange traded at $6245 per tonne, competitive compared to Indian variety. NCDEX will impose an additional margin of 10 percent on long and short positions from Friday, and may weigh on price.
NCDEX Jeera
Jeera futures closed higher due to fall in daily arrivals and profit booking after the recent fall in prices. However, the domestic demand for jeera from north Indian buyers is expected to decline due to holidays for Holi festival. Higher production estimates for the year may also weigh on the market sentiments. The arrivals are expected to improve by the next week. Also, weather was reported favorable despite cold conditions in major growing areas. On the other hand, expected rise in demand from overseas market due to political unrest in major producing countries, especially Syria, may edge sharp fall in prices. Arrivals in Unjha were around 20000 bags. The spot price was quoted at around Rs.13400 per 100kg.
